Anniversary Weekend

The husband and I are escaping to Big Sur for a weekend getaway to celebrate the one year wedding anniversary (already?!). We plan on filling it with hiking, sun, fun, food, endless pictures and... a bottle of Dom Perignon Vintage 2000 that we've been waiting to open. Yum...

Carnival Colors

I love going to local carnivals: the vibrant colors, loud laughter, smells of fried goodness and cheesy rides. Maybe one of these days, I'll put down the camera and actually go on these rides :)

Evening photo

After a beautiful Sunday of endless mimosas in Santa Cruz followed by a BBQ in Santa Clara with our friends, we finished our Sunday sitting in our backyard watching the moon and the stars. Obviously after a day like that, I probably wasn't in the best condition to set up the camera, tripod or manual settings but I somehow managed. My favorite is below...especially since you can see trail of the two stars (at least we can see a "few" stars where we live) moving...

Lensplaying

I recently bought myself a Canon 50mm prime lens and have been having so much fun with the new toy. I thought that it would be limiting to work with a fixed lens but it's been a learning experience to work with the limitations and learn to be creative in order to get the desired shot. It's a fast lens, perfect for the price (less than a hundred for a Canon lens!) and works really nicely with low light. It doesn't have the best bokeh (like my other favorite 70-200mm lens but that's heavy to always carry around) but it works for me and my playing. Of course, it's only just playing but it's been a lot of fun building up the mad camera skills. There are a few more camera lenses that I'm looking into getting but for now, I'll just keep playing with this lens!
